Uganda is battling with the problem of increasing plastic pollution. Our brand audits are exposing the extent of reach by plastic waste in our villages, towns, lakes, rivers and wetlands but. Plastic waste is now found littered everywhere in our communities. We need to keep increasing awareness, change mindset, change and behavior of Ugandans to transition into a new societal normal free from plastics. We have to keep promoting knowledge and information sharing. We need to equip people with skills that can help them start initiatives to propel the circular economy. 

Uganda Plastic-free Campus Program

On 13th March 2021, we launched the Plastic-free Campus program in partnership with the Break Free From Plastic movement. Schools and Universities play a special role in developing the mindset, awareness and habits of future citizens. Through the Plastic-free Campus program we are helping young people build plastic free communities for themselves, for future, for environment and for a sustainable world.

Kkan Highschool Joins the Plastic-free Campus program during the Plastic-free July 2022. 

 Kampala International    University joins the End Plastic Pollution initiative to launch the plastic-free campus program. Through this we have created opportunity for students to learn about plastic pollution and the innovative solutions to the problem. As part of this plastic-free campus program the university has embarked on fighting "Kaveera" (single-use plastic bags) by restricting its use on campus. Supermarkets, Shops and Vendors around the university have have been provided with Community Plastic Waste Collection bins.

Schools in Kiboga and Kyankwanzi Districts join the Uganda Plastic-free Campus program. During the launch of the program, students for St. 

Andrews Primary School in Kiboga Town, teachers prepared a song about plastic pollution using traditional instruments called "entongooli". Students presented a news reading session about plastic pollution. In this session students welcomed the Plastic-free Campus to their school. 

St. Andrews has become a model school for others within Kiboga and Kyankanzi Districts and has started to perform the song about plastic pollution in other schools to raise awareness. The schools appointed a students leaders club and started an environment club inspired by the Plastic-free Campus program.

Kiboga SDA Primary School becomes the first Adventist school in Uganda to join the Uganda Plastic-free Campus program. The school is taking serious action to end plastic pollution. As first step, the school together with the entire community around have started to restrict the use of plastic bags and plastic water sachets. The small water sachets cost as low as one hundred shillings and are supplied all around the town. Secondly as guided by the Plastic-free Campus learning materials the school has started weekly classes about environmental issues.

2. Uganda Circular Economy Practices Skills Program

Our Circular Economy Practices training programs is designed for people in communities affected by plastic pollution, students in schools and Universities and youth groups. 

Our program has benefited many young people in Uganda as they learn hands on skills to reuse, repurpose and help in redesigning packaging to reduce reliance on single-use plastics. 

Our programs has involved specific groups including Waste Pickers, Young girls and youth school dropouts, women groups and people with disabilities.

We have also training and sharing recommended Circular Economy Practices with young Entrepreneurs in Uganda. These young entrepreneurs are at the core of designing innovative products to help reduce single-use plastics. They are designing products from technology apps to basic life materials.
